The Lakers won the latest battle of Los Angeles, beating the Clippers, 104-103, on Cole Swider’s free throw with 0.4 seconds left in the teams’ final summer league game on Sunday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
With second-year guard Max Christie and first-round draft pick Jalen Hood-Schifino unavailable, the Lakers’ trio of two-way contract players and L.J. Figueroa led the way.
Two-way guard D’Moi Hodge had 23 points (7 for 11 shooting from 3-point range), five steals and five rebounds, while Figueroa finished with 23 points (10 for 13 shooting) and seven rebounds off the bench.
Two-way wing Swider finished with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting (5 for 9 from behind the arc).
The Clippers’ Matt Morgan hit a 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in regulation to make it 103-all. Swider was fouled on the ensuing inbounds play to set up the winning free throw.
Two-way center Colin Castleton had a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double to go with six assists. Bryce Hamilton added 14 points and six assists off the bench.
Forward Kobe Brown, the Clippers’ first-round pick, was ruled out in the second half because of a left ankle injury. He finished with six points and two assists in six minutes.
Jordan Miller, the guard the Clippers drafted in the second round, had five points and five rebounds in 26 minutes.
The Clippers were led by Xavier Moon, who had 21 points and 10 assists to go with eight rebounds and two steals. Moon was a game-high plus-23. Brodric Thomas scored 12 points, Morgan had 11 points and Jason Preston added 10 points and six assists.
The Lakers and Clippers both finished 3-2 in the league-wide event.
The Houston Rockets (5-0) and Cleveland Cavaliers (5-0) will square off on Monday in the summer league championship game (6 p.m., ESPN).
