14 new PS5 and PS VR2 games

There’s no E3 this year, but every major game studio is hosting its own showcase this summer, including PlayStation. On Wednesday, PlayStation announced that the next State of Play event will take place on May 30th at 3:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. ET.

According to the announcement, State of Play will feature updates on 14 upcoming PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2 games, including several PlayStation Studios games launching later this year. There are more than a dozen developers under the PlayStation Studios umbrella, but we don’t know much about what any of them are currently working on.

Presumably, one of the featured titles will be The Final Shape, which is the climactic expansion for Destiny 2. Sony Interactive Entertainment completed its acquisition of Destiny 2’s developer, Bungie, in July 2022, but the studio still publishes multiplatform games.

As for the rest of the reveals, we only have rumors to go on. For instance, a reliable leaker says that Sony will announce a PC port of God of War Ragnarök “very soon.” Tomorrow undoubtedly qualifies as very soon. Another X user found a certification for a PS VR2 PC adapter, so there’s a chance we see that at the showcase on Thursday as well.

Other than that, the only other notable PS5 rumor swirling at the moment concerns a new Astro Bot game. If you own a PS5, you’ve probably played the surprisingly stellar pack-in game Astro Bot Rescue Mission (one of our best games of 2018). Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb recently stated that a new Astro Bot game is coming before the end of 2024.

We’re also crossing our fingers to hear more about Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Firewalk Studios’ Concord, Haven Studios’ Fairgame$, Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine, and whatever Sucker Punch has been doing since 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima.
