2024 PIEoneer Awards finalists revealed

Across 20 categories, innovation and achievement have been recognised – and now it is up to an esteemed panel of judges to decide the results.

The winners are set to be announced at a glamorous ceremony taking place at London’s iconic Guildhall, on September 13.

The Emerging leader of the year category recognises up-and-coming leaders who have worked in the education industry for eight years or less, and who are making a notable impact on their organisations or the wider sector. Finalists here hail from Nigeria, the Netherlands, US, Denmark and Australia.

This year, finalists across all categories come from a total of 28 countries, from organisations both big and small.

With climate change and sustainability continuing to be the most pressing of issues facing our sector, the 2024 PIEoneer Awards recognised six innovators proactively making positive changes to reduce the impact of their international operation on a global or local scale in the Sustainability international impact category.

The list includes volunteer grassroots initiative the Climate Action Network for International Educators for its #TravelwithCANIE initiative, as well as the UK’s University of East London for it efforts.

Finalists in the Excellence in data and insight category include impressive entries from Enroly, IDP Education, mShare, Navita and Voyage, as well as a joint entry from CEG and Studyportals.

The Outstanding contribution to industry category sees individuals nominated by others for their role in evolving and shaping the global education sector in a significant way. The finalist list includes impressive figures known to many, such as UKCISA chief executive Anne Marie Graham and Centennial College’s associate vice-president for transnational strategies and market development, Virginia M. Macchiavello.

Meanwhile, Education New Zealand, Future Forte, INTO University Partnerships, Student Confidence, the University of Sydney and the University of Bristol have secured a place in the shortlisted category for the Student support award – each recognised for the innovative and successful ways they are supporting international students at one or multiple points in their student journey.

“I am immensely proud and extend my congratulations to the International Partnerships and Relations Team for having the Think Big International Scholarships Program recognised as a finalist in the Student support category for the 2024 PIEoneer Awards,” said Shazim Husayn, director of international at the University of Bristol.
