(NewsNation) — For the first primary of the season in New Hampshire, only two candidates, former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, remain in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Trump is aiming for a massive victory Tuesday night, securing a sweep of the first two early Republican races and making a November rematch with President Joe Biden look likelier than ever.
During an unscheduled stop at a New Hampshire polling location Tuesday afternoon, Trump said he expected Haley to face a “big loss.” The biggest question is whether Haley will be able to eat into his margin or pull off an upset victory Tuesday.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s Democratic primary challengers, Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., and Marianne Williamson, hope for a symbolic victory in New Hampshire as they seek momentum in their long-shot bids for the Democratic nomination. They have focused their campaign in the state for months with Biden not officially on the ballot.
New Hampshire political insiders lowered their expectations for turnout, though the secretary of state predicts record numbers.
Polls close at 8 p.m. ET, after which votes will be tabulated.
