New Delhi: TMC leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien has said that the tie-up between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Congress for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections is not working in West Bengal because of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
“INDIA alliance has two main detractors: BJP and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. He speaks the language of the BJP. The three reasons for the alliance not working in Bengal: 1. Adhir Chowdhury 2. Adhir Chowdhury 3. Adhir Chowdhury,” said O’Brien.
Mamata Banerjee had said earlier this week that her party will fight the elections alone in West Bengal. “I had no discussions with the Congress party. I have always said that in Bengal, we will fight alone. I am not concerned about what will be done in the country but we are a secular party and in Bengal, we alone will defeat the BJP,” said Banerjee.
Her decision to fight the elections alone has dealt a major blow to the prospects of the India National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA bloc). The alliance was formed just seven months ago to oppose the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal Thursday. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said on the occasion that the INDIA bloc will fight ‘anyay‘ (injustice) together.
“I am happy to have come to West Bengal. We have come here to listen to you and stand with you… BJP-RSS are spreading hatred, violence and injustice. So, INDIA formation is going to fight ‘anyay‘ together,” said Gandhi.
