UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. – Multiple gunshots are fired overnight in University City, leaving a juvenile with a gunshot wound and police searching for a shooter.
The shooting happened outside on Vernon, near Pennsylvania Avenue. The scene is clear now but earlier there was a large police presence in the area. The call for a shooting went out around 1:15 a.m.
The area is right by Heman Park, a popular recreation spot in University City. Police told FOX 2 that a juvenile male was shot and suffered what authorities describe as a ‘non-life-threatening’ gunshot wound. At this point, the police are not releasing the age of the juvenile who was struck.
Investigators did share thatthere were more than 70 evidence markers at the scene; those markers typically indicate things like shell casings.
We asked officers if there was a gun battle of some sort in the incident. They explained that they are still investigating that but clearly, whatever happened involved potentially a lot of shots being fired. In addition to many officers, the police also had two canines searching the area where the shooting happened. Investigators say at this point nobody is in custody.
Authorities were not able to give us a description of a suspect or supects. FOX 2 will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
