Roksanda Ilinčić took a wild, beachy holiday to the south of France, working the colors and mood of Le Corbusier’s tiny home, Cabanon, on the Côte d’Azur, into this vibrant collection.
The designer was intrigued by the rough simplicity of the cabin, which Le Corbusier referred to humorously as his “chateau,” and by the bright murals and tapestries inside.
With help from some experimental mills near Lake Como, Ilinčić used a variety of yarns to recreate those bright, abstract designs, working them into dresses that wrapped around models like blankets; a cape with a mile-long train; and a lineup of prom skirts.
Other monochrome looks were done in colors as fresh as the produce at a French market stall. Belted skirt and trouser suits came in shades including eggplant and cantaloupe, while a gown with giant curling ruffles glowed citrusy green.
Ilinčić and her customers are a colorful bunch. Some of the guests waiting to get into the show were wearing past seasons’ designs, in colors like fuchsia and bright orange, and the designer herself took a bow in a dark and roomy suit which she finished off with a pair of bright green shoes.
While this collection might strike some as dizzying, and a shade too conceptual, for those with color cravings, it was a summery feast.
