18-year-old girl risks life to pull woman from train tracks

WASHINGTON, Feb 18, (Agencies): In Tennessee, an 18-year-old girl named Lily Baker is being celebrated as a hero after bravely risking her life to save another person. Local news reports recount the incident earlier this month in Giles County where Baker, while driving, noticed a woman in a wheelchair at a railroad crossing, seconds away from being hit by an oncoming train.

Baker recounted that as the train approached with honking horns and flashing lights, she swiftly took action. Despite the imminent danger, she got out of her car to assist the handicapped woman in crossing the tracks. The teenager shared that the woman in the wheelchair explained she couldn’t walk and was in pain. Undeterred, Baker attempted to guide her across.

Ardmore Police Chief Jereme Robison revealed that during the daring rescue, both individuals fell onto the tracks. However, Baker managed to quickly get up and pull the woman out of harm’s way. Robison emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “They almost died.”

Lily Baker, a high school senior aspiring to become a nurse, acknowledged the seriousness of the incident. Despite the risks involved, she expressed no regrets, “If I did die, I would have died trying to save somebody, so it would have been okay.”

Chief Robison commended Baker for her exceptional courage in intervening, even in the face of such a harrowing experience.
