(NewsNation) — The Republican National Committee may restrict NBC’s access at this summer’s national convention after the news channel abruptly fired former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel, according to a new report by Politico.
McDaniel had been hired last week to serve as a contributor to NBC with a reported two-year, $600,000 deal. However, NBC and MSNBC employees criticized the decision, with some, like Chuck Todd, Joe Scarborough, Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid protesting it on the air.
Critics pointed to her past statements on the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 capitol riot as reasons they disagreed with NBC hiring McDaniel. NBC’s eventual firing of McDaniel after only one TV appearance also received backlash.
Danielle Alvarez, a spokesperson for the RNC and the Trump campaign, told Politico that the RNC is going to be “taking a hard look at what this means for NBC’s participation” in the July convention.
While the RNC does not have control over who can be credentialed for the convention itself, it does control aspects such as live shot space outside the event, Politico wrote.
