Women’s basketball superstar Caitlin Clark dropped by Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update — where she confronted SNL’s Michael Che about his past criticism of the game.
In a hilarious cameo, Clark — who was greeted with a massive 25-second ovation from the audience — called out Che for his putdowns of women’s basketball, including the joke he made just before introducing Clark.
“The University of Iowa announced that basketball star Caitlin Clark will have her jersey retired,” Che said. And replaced with an apron.”
That joke elicited gasps from the audience, and was not well received by Clark herself.
“You make a lot of jokes about women’s sports don’t you, Michael?” Clark said.
“I wouldn’t say a lot,” Che replied.
But Clark immediately threw to a supercut of Che’s various putdowns of the women’s game.
“A number of sports bars around the country or promising to only show women’s basketball games during March Madness,” Che said, in a prior gag. “The bars are known collectively as the ’empty ones.””
In response, Clark asked Che to read several jokes taking shots at him.
“Netflix has top new show with Ripley — featuring an eerie, unsettling performance by actor Andrew Scott,” Che said, through laughter. “Critics say it’s the hardest thing to watch on Netflix since Michael Che special ‘Shame the Devil.”
And in a fitting end to the segment, Clark handed Che a signed apron.
