Rupali Ganguly joins BJP

New Delhi: Known for her roles in popular serials like Anupamaa and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, actor Rupali Ganguly Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

She joined the party in the presence of senior leaders like Vinod Tawde and Anil Baluni, at an event which also saw astrologer Ameya Joshi join the BJP.

The actor said the “mahayagna” of development had spurred her decision to join the BJP.

“I feel that I should also take part in this… I need your blessings and support so that whatever I do, I do it right and good,” she said after joining the ruling party.

Ganguly revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had influenced her a lot and that she was one of his biggest fans. “The BJP has been doing great work… I always felt we should also contribute. I want to tread the path shown by PM Modi and work for the nation in some way or the other,” she added.

Tawde used the opportunity to take a shot at the Opposition, particularly the Congress. “We have a question for the Congress leadership, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. One, your government is giving reservations to Muslims. On the other hand, you talk about vote jihad in an election which is being viewed by the world. The frustration of the opposition is quite visible,” he said.

It is unclear whether Ganguly will get a ticket for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, like fellow actors Kangana Ranaut, and Arun Govil.

The Anupamaa actor’s step comes following a meeting with PM Modi in March this year. Ganguly had posted a video on her Instagram account, sharing her “fan girl” moment.

She captioned it with: “A day I will not stop reliving in my mind and feel euphoric about! It was the day my dream came true… that of meeting our Honourable PM Shri Narendra Modiji. It was indeed a fan girl moment! For 14 years I probably manifested the hour and more that I got to share the stage with him on such a huge platform that he has created for the remarkable digital content creators which shall not only be most coveted in the future but also an award that endorses Modiji’s vision of a digitally global India @mygovindia.”
