Natural Sourcing International voluntarily recalled one lot of Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall was reported by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on May 13.
The recalled products are Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds sold in 32-ounce bags. The lot code is 24095 C018, which is printed on the bottom of the back panel of the package. The expiration date is October 30, 2026, and the UPC is 078742300665.
Great Value is Walmart’s private-label brand and the recalled products were distributed to its stores nationwide for sale to customers.
What Is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a bacteria that may cause infections fatal for young children, the elderly, and those with a compromised immune system. Signs of Salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, and dehydration. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that every year, Salmonella causes 1.35 million infections, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the United States, and food is the most common source.
No illnesses or fatalities were reported to date related to this recall.
What To Do If You Have the Recalled Products at Home
Check your pantry for the recalled chia seeds. Discard them or return them to Walmart for a refund. Natural Sourcing International will replace the product with proof of purchase.
