Real-Life PCOS Weight Loss Story of Richa Mehrotra
How much did you lose in how many days?
I lost 14 kgs in 2 years.
What was your motivation behind weight loss?
Due to PCOS there was a sudden increase in body weight impacting both my physical and mental health. I felt like my life was moving in a slow direction and getting my weight down to a healthy number was something I could do and succeed at.
What was your weight loss diet (what drinks you had, did you eat fruits etc) and routine?
Followed the balanced diet provided by my nutritionist in 2021 for 6 months which included fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein. Basic thing that I did was to reduce the intake portions from what I was having earlier. I completely eliminated sugary drinks, maida, processed & fried foods from my diet. Yes, fruits are what I enjoy the most and I try to have them on a daily basis. Together with yoga and fast walking, this diet helped me with initial challenges on shedding those extra kilos. After losing 10 kgs my weight came to a standstill, then last year in May,2023 I joined DTF – Dance to Fitness founded by Nutritionist, Sonia Bakshi. Along with the diet plan and HIIT workout routines conducted by DTF fitness trainer Namrata Agarwal, not only I lost 3 kgs more but also reduced 6 inches overall. My body is getting in shape with a major improvement in overall strength and stamina. It has also boosted my mental health, I feel more focussed and confident.
Did you completely cut down on sugar?
No, not completely, during cheat day. I sometimes indulge in ice-creams or cupcakes, other days I prefer natural sugar(fruits) or jaggery for any sugar intake.
Do you have cheat meals? If yea, then how many times in a week? What is your go-to cheat meal?
Yes, of course, usually over the weekend with friends or family (once or twice) . Usually go to cheat meal would be some dessert, pasta or any Indian street food.
What was one thing that worked best for you?
Stress, first throw this factor out of the window. Some may lose weight faster while others may observe slow results which leads to demotivation and impatience during initial days. We need to be consistent for long lasting results. Just follow your diet and workout routine, eventually you will see results. Also, Diet is the key, you can’t lose weight just by doing exercise.
One challenge that you faced and how did you overcome it?
To get rid of my cravings, but with discipline I was able to overcome that.
