Atlanta’s Horizon Theatre Company is set to host its 26th Annual New South Young Playwrights Festival from June 2-8.

According to a press release, the Inman Park theater company selected 23 young aspiring playwrights to attend the week-long festival. The selected students will take part in workshops and seminars with professional theater actors, directors and playwrights.

“The New South Young Playwrights Festival is a treasured tradition for Horizon Theatre,” said Horizon Theatre Co-Artistic/Producing Director Lisa Adler in the release. “We take great pleasure in raising up the next generation of playwrights, and every year we’re blown away by their talent. The future is in good hands with these bright, young minds!”

During the festival, the students will be asked to draft a new short play that will be performed in a public reading on June 8 at 2 p.m. at Horizon Theatre. The performance is free and open to the public.

This year’s leading artists for the festival are Chisa Hutchinson and Crystal Skillman. According to the release, Hutchinson is a playwright and screenwriter who also teaches at the University of Delaware. Skillman is a playwright and a professor at The New School and Pace University.
