The Center for Puppetry Arts has announced the programming for this forthcoming season, sure to captivate audiences of all ages. The 2024-2025 season features performances for both families and adults, the return of Puppetry NOW and cherished holiday classics.
The fun kicks off with Summer at the Center, presented by Kaiser Permanente, including immersive experiences with your favorite characters. This includes the captivating Down in Fraggle Rock special exhibition (now through October 27), transporting guests into the whimsical world of Jim Henson’s iconic characters from the 1980s television series and the recent reboot and Puppet Camp (June and July). Audiences can delight in “Sesame Street the Musical” (June 5-August 4), a heartwarming theatrical production using puppets built to television standards to bring beloved Muppets like Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch directly to the Center’s stage. The Center is the only theater to present Sesame Street the Musical since its run on Broadway in New York.
“There is only one place in Atlanta that seemed a natural fit to bring The Muppets from Sesame Street to the stage — and that’s the Center for Puppetry Arts,” says Sesame Street the Musical’s creator, Jonathan Rockefeller. “We cannot wait for Sesame Street the Musical to take up residency here, and eagerly await our fans’ reactions when Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Gabrielle, and their other furry friends grace the Atlanta stage.”
The season’s Family Series features enchanting performances tailored for younger audiences, including two brand new productions: Theater for Young Audiences “Owl at Home” (August 14-September 8) and the adventurous tale of “Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote” (September 18-October 20). As the holidays approach, families can create enjoy perennial favorites like “The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Silly Hollow” (October 23-27) and the timeless “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™” (November 14-December 29). Looking ahead to 2025, audiences can anticipate a diverse array of productions, including “Squirrel Stole My Underpants” (January 8-19, 2025) “Rainforest Adventures” (January 29-March 2), “Galapagos George” (March 5-16), “Milo the Magnificent” (March 19-30) and the classic tale of “Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat” (April 8-May 25).
For adult audiences, the new season offers an electrifying lineup, beginning with the much-anticipated NATIONAL PUPPET SLAM (August 30-31) and the return of the Halloween fan-favorite “The Ghastly Dreadfuls” (October 2-26). In 2025, audiences can expect innovative performances such as “The Ninja Puppet Shenaniganza featuring Raymond vs Raymond” (January 23-February 2, 2025) by Puppetry NOW artist Raymond Carr, the comedic escapade of “Marooned! A Space Comedy” (March 6–16), and the avant-garde spectacle of “XPT: Xperimental Puppetry Theater” (April 30-May 4).
In addition to the performances, The Center’s Worlds of Puppetry Museum programming will provide visitors with immersive special exhibitions including Down in Fraggle Rock (now through November 3), Festive Features (November 12-December 29), and the 4th annual Puppetry NOW (January 24-April 27, 2025) featuring Atlanta artist Raymond Carr.
