Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter isn’t dwelling on all the attention she’s received following her flagrant foul on Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
During last Saturday’s game between the two teams, Carter shoved Clark to the ground after Clark elbowed her on the other side of the court. The play was ruled a common foul, but the WNBA later reviewed it and upgraded it to a Flagrant Foul Penalty 1.
Since then, much of the national sports discussion has revolved around the incident and the perceived resentment to which Clark has been subjected since making her professional debut. During the post-game press conference, Carter initially declined to answer any questions about Clark. On Monday night, she finally opened up about the incident during her media availability.
“I think that, at the end of the day, I’m a competitor,” Carter said. “Now that it’s another day, I’ve had an off day, now I can answer your questions and I can let you know how I really feel about things; but I’m a competitor and I’m gonna compete no matter who you are and no matter who’s in front of me. So, that’s just what it was. Heat of the moment play. We’re getting at it. We’re going back and forth. It’s basketball. It’s all hoops. After we finish the game, it’s all love.
“I don’t have any regrets with anything. I’m gonna compete and play 100% hard no matter who it is — like I said — or who we’re playing. No, I don’t have any regrets.”
