11 Schalmont student-athletes ink national letters of intent to play collegiately

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — 11 Schalmont student-athletes signed their letters of intent to play at the collegiate level Tuesday afternoon.

Included below is the full list of signees:

  • Karissa Antoine – Basketball, Fordham University
  • Curtis Brosious – Basketball, Lancaster Bible College
  • Kyle Franke – Baseball, SUNY Brockport
  • Quinn Frodyma – Baseball, Russell Sage College
  • Owen Preissler – Football, Hartwick College
  • Brendan Quick – Bowling, Hudson Valley Community College
  • Nicholas Ricciardi – Track & Field, Hudson Valley Community College
  • Andrew Schraa – Baseball, Saint Michael’s College
  • Dannah Smith – Golf, Monmouth University
  • Isaiah Smith – Basketball, Utica University
  • Jurnee Tuttle – Track & Field, Georgian Court University

Among that list is two student-athletes who are headed to Division I programs. Standout golfer Dannah Smith finished third in the 2024 NYSPHSAA Girls Golf Individual Championship over the weekend, shooting rounds of 78 and 69 for a +3 total-to-par gross.

2022 state champion girls basketball star Karissa Antoine will be taking her talents to Fordham University. Her journey at Schalmont helped shape her into a D-I talent; it’s also developed her into a true leader.

“It came from me being an eighth grader and having to be under somebody’s wing to now taking people under my wing,” said Antoine. “It just kind of showed me two different sides of the story. Like, being the underdog, and then being top dog.”

Antoine also benefitted from guiding her team through a talent-rich Section II in the wake of losing multiple members from that 2022 state championship team.

“It went from…my teammates having a shaped team, to, you know, losing those teammates and playing against the same competition,” said Antoine. “So, it kind of put me in a spot where I was like, “Okay, I can either take this and sit down, or I can take this and I can run with it.” So, I ran with it. And I made some friends from those [competing] schools along the way. So, that was fun. It was a good couple of years.”
