LENOX, Mass. (NEWS10) — Composer and conductor John Williams has canceled his performances this summer at Tanglewood. Williams, now 92 years old, is known for composing some of the most recognizable film scores in history.
According to Tanglewood, his performances were canceled “due to a recent health concern, from which he is expected to make a full recovery.” Williams was set to make appearances for “John Williams’ Film Night” on August 2 and 3, and “Tanglewood on Parade” on August 6.
“John Williams’ Film Night” features the Boston Pops performing music alongside film clips from Hollywood’s golden age to now. The event will go on with conductor David Newman conducting the second half of the program in place of Williams. For “Tanglewood on Parade,” which features several musicians and conductors, conductor Ken-David Masur will take Williams’ place
Williams is best known for composing the scores for “Jaws” (1975), “Star Wars” (1977), “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial” (1982), the “Indiana Jones” franchise (1981–2023), “Jurassic Park” (1993), and many more. He has been nominated for 54 Academy Awards and was the oldest Oscar nominee in any category at 91 years old.
Those who have tickets for the events were notified about the schedule changes, said Tanglewood. Any questions can be emailed to [email protected].
