Referees confirmed Angel Reese was ejected against the New York Liberty on Tuesday night for waving off one of the officials while disagreeing with a call.

Reese was ejected with two-and-a-half minutes left in the fourth quarter while the Chicago Sky trailed by 11. After she received her fifth personal foul of the game, she said something in the direction of the ref before turning around and waving him off. The ref signaled for a technical foul and immediately signaled for a second one, thus ejecting her from the game. Reese, as well as her teammates and even members of the Liberty, were visibly confused by what just happened.

Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu was so stunned by the ejection that she even questioned a ref, asking why Reese was tossed just for saying, “That’s bullshit.”

After the game, an official clarified that Reese was given a technical first for addressing the ref “disrespectfully,” and then given the second technical foul for waving him off “in resentment.” The official declined to elaborate on what was said to warrant the first one.
