MLB All-Star Game voting opens for fans to pick their favorite players

It’ll be up to MLB players and the commissioner’s office to decide if A’s closer Mason Miller will be an All-Star later this summer, but the fans’ annual opportunity to vote for their favorite position players (A’s or otherwise) is underway.

MLB launched Phase 1 of the voting process on Wednesday. Fans can vote as many as five times over a 24-hour period until 9 a.m. on June 27 at MLB.com and on the league’s app to determine the top six outfielders and top two players at every other position for both leagues.

Pitchers and reserves – 23 for each league — will be selected by the Commissioner’s Office after a vote by the players determines the pool of potential candidates.

Miller, the A’s hard-throwing rookie closer, figures to be included in the players’ pool of candidates. Miller has converted 10 of 11 save opportunities and he leads the majors with an average of 17.65 strikeouts per nine innings.

Designated hitter Brent Rooker was the A’s lone representative at last season’s game in Seattle and he’s on the ballot again. If Rooker makes the team, he’ll be the first player to represent the A’s in multiple All-Star games since Stephen Vogt in 2015-16.
