The three-row SUV shares its underpinnings with the Isuzu D-Max pickup

The Isuzu MU-X is one of the truck-based three-row SUVs we’re missing out in Europe and the U.S., alongside the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport rivals. In order to keep up with the competition, Isuzu teased an updated version of the MU-X in Thailand, alongside a new RS-branded trim.
The second generation of the Isuzu MU-X debuted in late 2020, sharing its ladder-frame underpinnings with the D-Max midsize pickup. After receiving minor updates in late 2022, the SUV is ready for a proper facelift.

The teaser focuses on the front end of the MU-X, which remains hidden in the shadows. Still, we can see a portion of the redesigned grille and the fresh LED headlights. The RS-branded version appears to have a different grille pattern and lime green accents on the emblem.
Judging from the recently facelifted D-Max, interior and mechanical updates are expected to be limited. After all, the SUV already has the “rough terrain mode” for the 4WD system which was recently added to the pickup as well.

Powertrain options will likely be carried over, including a 1.9-liter diesel unit producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and a more powerful 3.0-liter diesel producing 187 hp (140 kW / 190 PS). Depending on the market, Isuzu offers a choice between a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox, sending power to the rear (2WD) or to all four wheels (4WD).
It’s worth mentioning that the Isuda D-Max is slated to launch a fully electric version in 2025, indicating that the MU-X could potentially adopt electrification as well. However, since the three-row SUV isn’t as widely available as the pickup, it’s unclear whether this investment will be justified.
Isuzu hasn’t specified a date for the debut of the facelifted MU-X, only stating that it is “coming soon.” However, it’s been rumored that the reveal is set for June 12. In the meantime, you can check out the official teaser video below.
