Fine jewellery pieces to wear in summer 2023

Named after Portugal’s golden coastline, Matilde’s Tróia collection is a celebration of organic shapes and scintillating seaside colours. The cobbled Mar necklace evokes the shape of rocks and undulating waves combining beads of sustainability-sourced gold, amazonite, azurite, turquoise and pearl. The little pendant, crafted from 100% recycled 14ct gold, is Matilde’s take on a traditional Viana heart, a lucky love charm known as “Coração De Viana” in Portuguese. Here the romantic symbol is embellished with a pretty lab-grown diamond and green sapphire.

Aptly launched to coincide with the summer solstice, these crystal bracelets and necklaces have a restorative purpose with different healing qualities. This cool London-based brand is big on bold statement pieces, including chunky chain necklaces, big pendants and organic pearls the size of Mentos mints. By Alona’s summer collection is distinctively mermaid-inspired with a large range of beach-themed treasures. Make a splash in these Gila gold-plated shell pieces or chill out in the oceanic tones of the Willow bracelet and necklace set, crafted from peridot stone beads and finished with a glorious Keshi pearl in the centre. The Gila earrings and necklace cost £135 and £169 respectively, and the Willow bracelet and necklace are £70 and £110.

The anklet is back and this London-based brand has gone to town with all sorts of summery permutations, from chunky silver designs to simple sold 9ct gold chains which can be worn in the sea. This beaded version has a base of recycled silver and features a mix of semi-precious stones including lavender quartz, dark pink chalcedony, blue agate and lemon jade, all smoothly rounded for a comfortable fit.

Specialising in independent designers – among them Alexis Bittar, Anna Sheffield and Polly Wales – London-based brand Tomfoolery is, as its name suggest, a whole lot of fun. Fine jewellery pieces range from the dainty and discreet to the fairy tale flamboyant. These “Cloud & Rain” drop earrings by Northern Irish designer Grainne Morton are a balance of both. Delicately handcrafted from ethically sourced 18k gold-plated silver, they combine chrysoprase, glass cabochon, moonstone, opal, peridot, tourmaline and turquoise.
