Hindley Fire Station and Atherton Fire Station host charity car wash

Hindley Fire Station joined together with Atherton Fire Station to host a charity car wash today, July 23, and despite the torrential rain they successfully raised money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Speaking about the event, Watch Manager Phil Dearden of Hindley Fire Station said: “We’re from Hindley but at the station we don’t have the right facilities to do a charity car wash, so we went to Atherton Fire Station and came together today to host a charity car wash, and it was good despite the rain we have had.

“We have done really well, we have raised more than £300 and it is great especially with the torrential weather we have been having, we had quite a good turn out with people coming out supporting us and we did it from about 10.30am to about 3pm washing cars and we have raised just over £300 which will go to the Fire Fighters charity.

“Blue Watch at Hindley and Blue Watch at Atherton combined, and we washed cars, and we will possibly be doing more car washes in the future, it is always a good thing to do for charity.

“The community came out and especially with the rubbish weather you would think people wouldn’t want to get their cars washed but today the community came out and had their cars washed, some of the kids looked round the fire engines, we provided fire safety advice and gave out a couple of fire alarms to people.”
