During a Congressional hearing Wednesday, Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary claimed responsibility for the now-defunct, Orwellian Disinformation Governance Board.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) pressed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on who was responsible for creating the now-paused Disinformation Governance Board (DGB), which aimed to target alleged “mis-, dis- and mal-information,” another way of describing censorship. Mayorkas replied, “It is my responsibility.” While the DGB is gone, the DHS continues its anti-free speech efforts.
The Biden administration paused the DGB after it roused intense controversy last year, particularly following MRC Free Speech America exclusive reports revealing that board members had ties to leftist billionaire George Soros. At the July 26 hearing, Biggs asked, “Secretary, who must take responsibility for the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board—you as the Secretary of Homeland Security or President Biden?”
Mayorkas first tried to defend the DGB, claiming it “has been mischaracterized,” but Biggs cut in. “Did President Biden tell you to do it, or did you guys decide to do it? Did you take responsibility for creating that?” he asked. Mayorkas then confessed, “Congressman, it is my responsibility.”
While the DGB is gone, DHS censorship collusion lives on. For instance, MRC Free Speech America reported in August 2022 that the DGB appeared simply to be going underground, as DHS said “disinformation” work “can and must” continue. More recently, in May, House Republicans on the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Accountability said DHS was using taxpayer dollars to censor Americans. The Biden administration was also recently caught trying to prevent release of censorship documents exposing DHS. It is not clear exactly which censorship activities the DHS is currently engaged in.
Indeed, new Republican legislation aims to prevent and defund the ongoing DHS censorship efforts.
