It comes as the DVLA confirms that reminders to pay road tax will no longer be sent out in the post.
Instead, drivers will receive a text message or email informing them that they need to pay road tax.
The DVLA road tax change is part of the agency’s new driver and vehicles online account service, which lets all vehicle and driver information be in one place.
DVLA makes significant changes to road tax
Alongside the new service, DVLA shares that in 2021, around £119 million in road tax was not paid.
Plus, they also found that 55% of vehicles on the road were left unlicensed for two months or less.
How to pay road tax
If you are unsure if your vehicle has road tax, you can check via the DVLA website to avoid a hefty fine.
On the website, you will find information on what you need to create an account, including a recent vehicle tax reminder or a ‘last chance’ warning letter from DVLA.
But if you do not have the information required, you can still apply for a new logbook to get the information.
Road tax can be paid by debit or credit card, or Direct Debit and you must tax your vehicle even if you do not have to pay anything, such as if you’re exempt because you’re disabled.
