Riverdale season seven spoilers below
Netflix’s high school mystery Riverdale finally came to an end last night, wrapping up the seven series of the show.
Based on the Archie Comics, the series followed a bunch of horny and inquisitive teenagers played by Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch and Ashleigh Murray who tried to get to the bottom of small town Riverdale’s many mysteries, while also frequently getting together.
It received mixed reviews, while maintaining a dedicated fanbase. The Hollywood Reporter described it as “a crazy, sometimes successful, dare of a TV show” when it first aired in 2017; the same year The New York Times called it “steamy”, saying that the show concocted “a dark, bitter milkshake”; The Guardian described it as “a campy, maximalist romp that leans into its own post-comic book absurdity” in 2020.
Now the final has arrived and it has split fans of the show. It began by jumping ahead 67 years, showing Betty (Reinhart) with her granddaughter, but it then went back to the last day of school. It goes on to explain what happens to each of the leading high schoolers after they graduate, and as part of this it’s revealed that Betty, Archie, Jughead and Veronica had all been in a secret quad relationship together. Fans were shocked after following the intertwining character arcs for years.
