Richards won five of his duels, made five interceptions, six recoveries, and two blocks in the comeback result. Odsonne Edouard kickstarted the comeback in the 59th minute making it 2-1 before Jean-Philippe Mateta registered a hat trick including an 83rd minute winning goal.
The 23-year-old Richards has also made one appearance for Crystal Palace’s Under-21 side this season, but hasn’t featured in English Premier League play.
Crystal Palace will resume league play on Sunday against Wolves at Selhurst Park.
Robinson, Ream start as Fulham edges Tottenham in London Derby
Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream both celebrated advancement to the third round as Fulham defeated London rivals Tottenham 5-3 on penalty kicks after a 1-1 scoreline through 90 minutes.
The USMNT defenders retained their usual spots in Marco Silva’s backline and helped Fulham to a first head-to-head victory over Spurs since March 2013.
Robinson created two offensive chances, completed four dribbles, and made two interceptions at left back. He limited Tottenham starting right winger Manor Salomon to one shot in his 82 minutes on the field.
Ream made six interceptions, three clearances, and seven recoveries alongside Issa Diop in the backline.
Davinson Sanchez’s penalty miss in the third round ultimately helped Fulham advance with the Cottagers going 5-for-5 in the shootout.
