Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and any votes after 5 p.m. on Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

On to the nominees:
Lilia Chatfield, Branham field hockey: Chatfield, a junior, scored on three of her four shots as Branham defeated Monta Vista last week. She scored six goals and had four assists as a JV player last season.
Simona Colic, Livermore volleyball: Colic, a junior, had eight aces and seven receptions in a tight 3-2 victory over Antioch. She also had two kills and three digs in Livermore’s Monday game.
Alexis Dwinell, Carondelet volleyball: Dinwell, a senior libero, had five aces and 21 digs in a victory Las Lomas. She also had 27 serve receptions and three assists in the 3-1 victory.
Nola Kurtz, Moreau Catholic water polo: Kurtz, a sophomore, scored six goals and had two assists in a close 17-16 victory over Livermore. She has scored 16 goals and nine assists in the first four games of the season.
Meki Maile, Menlo-Atherton volleyball: Maile, a junior setter, had 34 assists in M-A’s 3-1 victory over Menlo School. She followed that up with 24 assists against Salinas, and Maile had 19 digs over those two games.
Jenna Mejia, Heritage water polo: Mejia, a junior, started her season with four goals in a game against James Logan, more than twice her career high in a single game. She scored 10 goals and had 16 assists last season.
Niamiah Moreno, Pittsburg volleyball: Moreno, a junior, had 35 digs, 40 receptions, two aces and 15 digs in matches against Granada and College Park.
Sharon Ng, Irvington water polo: Ng, a sophomore, led Irvington in goals with five in a 24-6 victory over Pittsburg. She also had two assists. In the next game against Castro Valley, Ng had two assists.
Jane Pagano, Prospect field hockey: Pagano, a senior, scored a goal and assisted once in a 3-0 victory over Cupertino in the Panthers’ season opener.
Varsha Ramachandran, Valley Christian golf: Ramachandran, a junior, shot a WCAL-record 29 with seven birdies against Mitty. That gave Valley Christian its 50th consecutive victory in WCAL play.
Isabella Romero, Archbishop Mitty volleyball: Romero, a junior outside hitter, clinched Archbishop Mitty’s 3-1 victory over St. Francis with a kill in the fourth set. That snapped Mitty’s six-match losing streak to its WCAL rival.
