Gabriel Macht’s Dad, Stephen Macht, Was on Suits

Gabriel Macht may have made a name for himself on “Suits,” but it turns out, acting chops run in the family. His father, Stephen Macht, is not only a seasoned actor, but was also a recurring character on his son’s hit drama series.

Stephen kicked off his acting career in the ’70s and was best known for credits like “The Monster Squad” and Stephen King’s “Graveyard Shift,” before starring opposite Gabriel’s Harvey Specter on “Suits.” The 81-year-old actor portrayed Henry Gerard, a legal ethics professor at Harvard Law School. Stephen appeared in six episodes in seasons three through nine, with his character both butting heads and teaming up with Harvey on several occasions. As one of the few who was aware of Mike Ross’s secret, Gerard played a pivotal role in keeping Mike from being exposed as a fraud.

“Gabriel coaches me as Professor Gerard; the student has become the teacher.”

“Reprising my role as Professor Gerard on ‘Suits’ is an opportunity of a lifetime for a father,” Stephen told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2014. “As a former drama professor who once coached 15-year-old Gabriel in the role of Cyrano de Bergerac, I now experience the reality of a role reversal. Gabriel coaches me as Professor Gerard; the student has become the teacher.” He continued, “Because we are real-life father and son, we share an edgy, raw emotional honesty that drives our scenes. And that’s just plain fun!”

Stephen has been married to art curator Suzanne Pulier for almost 60 years. In addition to Gabriel, the couple share three other children: singer-songwriter Jesse Macht, television editor Ari Macht, and Julie Macht.

Aside from his dad, Gabriel’s wife, Jacinda Barrett, also had a recurring role on “Suits.” His wife of two decades portrayed one of his love interests and a fellow lawyer, Zoe Lawford.
