CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – A St. Louis County Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant last week for a Clinton County, Illinois, man accused of shoplifting more than $12,000 in merchandise from local stores.
According to a probable cause statement, Chesterfield police were looking into two thefts at Lowe’s and Sunglass Hut that they believed were the work of the same person.
Police claim Coleman Young was responsible for the thefts and served a search warrant at his residence. Young’s girlfriend, who was living with him at the time, directed police to a closet where they found stolen merchandise from Walgreens, Target, CVS, Walmart, Dierbergs, Sunglasses Hut, Simon Properties, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Soccer Master. The total value of the stolen property is $12,802.33.
Police also found a purse with a wallet and credit card inside, which had been reported stolen by a Target employee.
During the search, police discovered two notebooks documenting which stores he stole from, the dates he committed the thefts, and the specific items he took.
Police claim Young told investigators that he sells the stolen merchandise to fund his gambling habit.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Young with stealing, stealing – all other property, and receiving stolen goods.
Young has other open theft cases in St. Louis County, St. Clair County, Illinois, and Madison County, Illinois.
