Allegedly Drunk Driver Flips Over Motorcyclist And Then Themselves

The Renault’s driver reportedly had a blood-alcohol level that’s over seven times the legal limit in Brazil, where the incident took place

Motorcyclists are already precariously perched on the roads, but toss in some aggressive driving and an alleged drunk driver in a small Renault (if we’re not mistaken, it’s a Kwid, a sister model of the Dacia Spring), and the situation nosedives from bad to worse.

This terrifying scenario unfolded on a road in Brazil, where a group of bikers were filmed colliding with a reportedly intoxicated driver at highway speeds. Miraculously, everyone involved lived to tell the tale.

The video below clocks in at just 36 seconds, but its impact is likely to linger as a lifelong lesson for those involved. It kicks off with a rider continuously glancing back while navigating the middle lane of the highway. It becomes immediately evident that traffic is barreling toward them at an alarming rate.

That traffic consists of two more riders and a white crossover closing at overtaking speeds. The first rider does indeed overtake but the second one ends up next to the crossover and that’s when things go bad. The white vehicle veers hard to the left, hits the rider next to him, taps the center divider, and begins to spin out. The impacted rider falls onto the ground and begins sliding.

The motorcyclist with the camera maintains a steady vigil, alternating between glancing backward and forward. As the camera pans forward again, the pint-size Renault is now overturned on its roof, sliding precariously. Miraculously, it somehow lands back on its tires.

The rider who witnessed the whole thing approaches the vehicle, initially delivering a swift kick to the window before forcibly opening it. In a fit of anger, insults are hurled at the driver before the rider retreats toward their companion, marking the abrupt end of the video.

According to local news outlet G1, the injured rider suffered a broken leg but was otherwise okay. The 37-year-old driver of the crossover allegedly had a blood-alcohol level of 0.46 mg/l. That’s over four times the legal limit in most U.S. states and over seven times the limit in Brazil. In fact, according to Alcohol.org, it’s enough to put someone into a coma.

The driver of the Renault Kwid crossover was arrested but later posted bail and has since been released until his trial date.
