This was confirmed to Fox News Digital after initially being shared with Congress during a classified briefing on the cocaine investigation. On two separate occasions, in July and September of last year, agents discovered “small amounts of marijuana,” according to a Secret Service spokesperson who spoke with Fox News.
The Secret Service explained that because marijuana possession had been decriminalized in the District of Columbia, no one had been arrested in these incidents because the amount found did not meet the legal threshold for federal charges or D.C. misdemeanor criminal charges.
Officers gathered up the weed and burned it. Agents found “less than.2 ounces of marijuana” in each case, the spokesperson said, noting that marijuana is no longer illegal in the District of Columbia. The Secret Service did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s follow-up questions, which included a request for clarification on whether or not the possession of illegal substances is permissible on federal property under United States law.
The White House and all other federal buildings have a zero-tolerance policy toward marijuana use. This is because, despite some states having legalized marijuana use for both medical and recreational purposes, federal law in the United States still considers it to be a Schedule I substance, making its use illegal.
As the President’s official residence and office, the White House is subject to federal law. This includes the prohibition of any and all controlled substances at the federal level, including marijuana.
On Thursday, Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) criticized the Secret Service after an investigation into cocaine found at the White House cleared no members of the Biden administration.

She made this point during a press briefing by contrasting the mandatory drug testing that all Americans must undergo to get a job with the freedom with which political leaders in Washington, DC can have access to classified information despite the possibility that they may be under the influence of hard drugs. Rep. Greene revealed an inexplicable failure on the part of the Secret Service to drug test approximately 500 identified suspects.
In the days following Hunter Biden’s (who has a well-documented history of drug abuse) presence at the house over the Fourth of July holiday, police found a large quantity of cocaine. After Hunter Biden’s guilty plea on tax fraud and weapons charges, Republicans have been eager to draw connections between the president and his son. The White House declined to make any statements about the matter.
Before the classified briefing, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted her eagerness for answers. The president’s son has become a convenient scapegoat for the republicans. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the media’s coverage of former President Donald Trump’s allegations that President Joe Biden was involved in a cocaine coverup “shameful,” but the administration said nothing.
