John Austin

John Austin is a poet, essayist, and translator. His collection of poems, Disconnect (Harbour, 2002), was a Poetry Society of America Book Prize-winner. His translation of Rilke’s Book of Hours (New Directions, 2003) was longlisted for a National Book Critics Circle Award in Translation, and his first collection of translations, Riddles (Black Widow, 2005), was a PEN Open Book Award finalist. He is a contributing editor at Poetry and has served as poetry editor at The New Republic and an editor at Parnassus and The Georgia Review. He was the 2013–14 director of the Poetry Foundation in Chicago. His next book of poems, The Art of Not Reading (Picador, 2016), is forthcoming.
