SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Night two for Belmont on Broadway and NEWS10 takes you back up to the festivities to check in with a trackside lemonade stand that is well poised to make a big difference for charity, this year.
The NEWS10 crew made a stop at one local little girl’s lemonade stand. That young girl is trying to make a big difference during the Belmont Festival.
“It makes a lot of money for charities,” said Emma Kraszewski. The lemonade stand is located just a couple blocks away from the Marylou Whitney entrance. And Emma would know. This is her fourth year in business and she’s just hoping to beat her past years totals. “The least amount would be like $500 but I would definitely get like over that.”
Emma tells NEWS10 reporter James De La Fuente her first charity raised just over $1,200. She’s hoping to contribute the money to help rescue animals through the Miss Peaches Foundation started by Barstool’s Dave Portnoy.
“It’s a really good thing to rescue dogs. We didn’t rescue my dog because my brother has allergies. But if we could, we would” Emma says Portnoy and his rescue dog, Miss Peaches, are near and dear to her and her lemonade stand. But she tells NEWS10 reporter, James De La Fuente, that she does this simply because she can. “It makes me feel really good because I know a lot of people don’t have the opportunities to do this. But it’s good to try.”
The next stop was Broadway. “We’re out for dinner but we were at the track earlier,” said one man eating dinner with his date.
“Did you win?” asked NEWS10 Reporter James De La Fuente
“Lost about 20 bucks,” responded the man.
“How much are you losing here?” asked De La Fuente
“Uh $60, $70.”
“How’s it taste?” asked the reporter.
“Very good. The ravioli is really good,” said the man’s date.
And if you didn’t get enough fun yet, there was still more along the way. “Wine tastings. Keuka Spring Vineyards. We are a Finger Lakes winery,” said Michael Carleton.
The news crew then headed over to Putnam Place to check in on the fun and the tunes of Afroman. They will be viewing the Belmont Stakes on their big screen. “If you can’t make it to the track on Saturday, you can definitely come here and watch it at Putnam Place,” said Bartender Kayla Roberts.
Belmont on Broadway goes for another four days and Gary Fox, General Manager at Putnam Place has a special message for everyone having a good time. Party and play responsibly. He said don’t drink or drug and drive. Belmont will be back next year, and they want you to be too.
