The survey was launched by Bolton West and Atherton MP Chris Green who says he has been encouraged by a recent “dramatic improvement” in Greater Manchester Police.
He says this is thanks to the new Chief Constable Stephen Watson, who has replaced “years of failed leadership.”
Mr Green said: “I’ve been doing a fair amount on law and order, particularly with the new chief of police because he’s actually interested in doing things.
“So its all about public engagement, I want to understand the concerns that people have.”
He added: “For example in Smithills there’s a campaign to get a speed camera on Smithills Dean Road, things like that.”
Mr Green said that he regularly meets with senior police officers and believes that as well as engaging the public it is also key to make clear to police what people’s views and expectations are.
He also says that survey like this can help police forces identify which areas to target.
It gives people in the Bolton West area the opportunity to identify which kinds of crimes are most concerning to them and whether they have experienced speeding or road safety problems in their areas.
They can also answer how safe they feel walking around their areas both during the day and at night.
But it also gives them the opportunity to give their views on how police in their communities are performing.

It poses questions about how long response times took, how satisfied people were with how officers responded to their cases and how satisfied they are with the visibility of police officers in their areas.
Mr Green said: “Especially with services changing, the police don’t always understand how they’re perceived.
“The custody suite in Bolton has been full pretty much every day since it, response times are getting quicker, but people aren’t always aware because you don’t regularly engage with the police in the way you may do with other public services.”
