Clubs are asked to submit a maximum of 25 in-squad players to the league after every transfer window, which does not include goalkeepers. This number does not include players who were aged below 21 at the turn of the year.
Wanderers have fielded the seventh most experienced starting line-up in League One this season – averaging a shade over 26 years in their first six games.
But of their rivals, Northampton and Portsmouth equal the number of senior players registered and Wigan (17), Cheltenham (17), Port Vale (16), Charlton (16), Oxford (16), Wycombe (16), Exeter (14) and Reading (13) have named fewer.
Bolton’s 18 include: Vic Adeboyejo, Ricardo Santos, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Dion Charles, Josh Dacres-Cogley, Kyle Dempsey, Will Forrester, Jack Iredale, Gethin Jones, Paris Maghoma, Carlos Mendes Gomes, Aaron Morley, Dan Nlundulu, Cameron Jerome, Josh Sheehan, George Thomason, Eoin Toal and Randell Williams.
There was no place in the squad for Declan John, who has joined Salford City on loan and goalkeepers Nathan Baxter and Joel Coleman do not count towards the total.
Just four of the squad – Bodvarsson, Iredale, Mendes Gomes and Toal – do not count towards the homegrown quota. EFL rules state that at least seven homegrown players must be named on each team-sheet for any competition.
Wanderers have named 21 contracted players who fall below the age range, who are also eligible to play senior football.
They are: Ben Andreucci, Zac Ashworth, Trevon Bryan, Conor Carty, Max Conway, Jack Flint, Wes Frimpong, Noah Halford, Charlie Hayes-Green, Fin Lockett, Luke Hutchinson, Sam Inwood, Nelson Khumbeni, Ellis Litherland, Luke Matheson, Arran Pettifer, Sonny Sharples-Ahmed, Gez Sithole, Lamine Toure, Matty Tweedly and Eric Yoro.
With room in their squad, Wanderers would therefore have scope to comfortably make signings in January if they were deemed necessary.
