Boy whose disappearance sparked QLD bushland search charged over stolen car crash in Widgee near Gympie on Saturday

A teenage boy missing in Queensland bushland for two days had become lost after allegedly fleeing the scene of a stolen car crash.

He is one of two boys from Biloela charged over the crash in Widgee near Gympie on Saturday.

The boys allegedly stole a blue 2017 Holden Colorado ute in Biloela before crashing on Upper Widgee Rd about 11am.

The 15-year-old boy is believed to have run into the Wrattens Forest bushland.

He could not be found and was feared lost, sparking a missing person alert and search and rescue operation.

SES officers and a rescue helicopter were involved in the search.

On Monday, after he had spent two cold nights in the bush, the boy was found safe.

He was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence, attempted enter dwelling with intent, driving without a licence and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday.

He was charged with attempted enter dwelling with intent, enter premises with intent, stealing, counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count of learning to drive unsupervised.

The boys’ cases are being heard in the Children’s Court.
