Burndeners run around in a Flash at Pennington event

Andy Dunleavy was first home in 34mins 28secs – knocking 1:01 from his 2022 time and winning first MV65, while Mark Cannon took first MV60 in 35:45 and Ian Pudge claimed first MV50 in 36:10.

Ladies were led by Gwen Kinloch as she finished in 38:34 and was crowned first FV60 and closely following was Lyndsay Darbyshire in 38:46 as first FV55.

Second Cats were collected by Suleman Badat (second MV45 in 36:22), Holly Craggs (second FV40 in 43:50) and Anne Hewitt (second FV70 in 1:08:24). Mark Butler collected third MV60 in 42:31 and Tony Fulop knocked five minutes from his 2022 time, crossing the line in 54:36.

With the guidance of men’s captain, Gareth Doherty, and other seasoned Burnden triathletes, there was an increase in the number of members taking part in the West Lancs Spring Triathlon at Edge Hill this year with an astonishing 19 Burndeners donning their swim, bike and run gear.

First of the tri-stars home was Ironman 2023, Martin Fielding, who cleared the field in 1:13:25 with a swim time of 8:27, bike 40:13 and cycle 21:07.

Next up was Stephen Horsman on top form with a total finish time of 1:16:43 (pool time 9:28, bike 40:46, run 21:33) and third up was Mike Caine in 1:18:29 (7:12, 43:22, 23:22).

First lady finisher was Burnden’s youngest member at 21, Francesca Caine, who finished in 1:33:34 (8:51, 55:12, 22:56.

First-time trier, Alyson Cullen, smashed it in 1:48:06 (9:37, 55:02, 34:19).

Verity Harrison and Carolyn Edwards were on their race travels at the self-proclaimed ‘Holy Grail of the Pennine’s Peaks, Pines and Trails’ – the Pennine Trails Marathon. Harrison finished in 4:54:46 and ninth lady, while Edwards clocked 6:55:48.

The Sunnywood Project’s Monument Marathon saw Maggie Slamin, Jocelyn Chadderton, who hiked the route, and Emma Walker who ran it but added an extra mile as she lost her way finish in around seven hours.

At Fleetwood, Jenni Partington took on Fylde Coast’s half marathon and finished fourth FV45 in a super time of 2:02:40.

Paul Drew was the 100 man this week as he completed his parkrun milestone at Bolton in a great time of 26:56. In Stretford, Natasha Clarke smashed her PB, knocking off 2mins 31secs from her previous time – running home in 30:38.
