BYD Seal: Flagship electric sedan gets price cut in some states

BYD has trimmed the price tag of its flagship Seal Performance electric sedan less than 48 hours after opening orders.

The price cut is just $50, bringing it to $68,748 before on-road costs.

Crucially, that allows it to qualify for electric vehicle (EV) incentives in New South Wales and South Australia, provided buyers don’t add any of the optional paint finishes ($1500-2000) or the Ocean Blue interior (also $1500).

However, it’s still too expensive to qualify for Queensland’s EV rebate.

Pricing is unchanged for the Dynamic and Premium, at $49,888 and $58,798 before on-road costs, respectively.

In New South Wales, buyers can get a $3000 rebate on an EV with a dutiable value of less than $68,750, while also getting an exemption on stamp duty.

This scheme will end on January 1, 2024, though NSW residents can still receive the rebate even if they don’t take delivery until after this date provided they have purchased or placed a deposit on the vehicle.

South Australia also offers a $3000 subsidy for EVs priced with a dutiable value of under $68,750, along with three years of free registration.

Queensland’s scheme offers an even larger rebate at $6000, though the dutiable value can’t exceed $68,000.

BYD says Seals ordered today will be ready for customer deliveries in December 2023-January 2024.
