KASPER SCHMEICHEL is 36, the same age as Joe Hart.
But he’s been linked with a move to Celtic after Nice made the shock move to let him leave on a free transfer.
The legendary Danish goalkeeper only joined the French club from Leicester City last summer after over a decade with the Foxes.
But he’s being made a free agent, after playing 46 matches for the French side.
Schmeichel, of course, wouldn’t need to move immediately as he’s available on a free transfer.
His wages could be a challenge too, not to mention the fact that Hoops might want to cultivate a younger goalkeeper.
But his sudden emergence as a transfer option is interesting, not least given his shared backstory from Leicester with Brendan Rodgers.
A Nice statement tonight read: “OGC Nice and Kasper Schmeichel have agreed to terminate the Danish international’s contract by mutual consent,” it read.
“The 36-year-old goalkeeper arrived in Nice last summer and made 46 appearances for the club in all competitions.
“The club wishes him every success for the rest of his career.”
“Brendan is one of the best managers I’ve ever seen up close so I only have good things to say about him.”
Schmeichel lost his starting spot to Marcin Bulka – who joined from PSG this summer – at the start of this season.
