Chargers trade kicker Dustin Hopkins to Browns for 7th-round pick in 2025 – Daily News

The Chargers resolved one of their few training camp battles Monday when they agreed to trade kicker Dustin Hopkins to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in 2025. Hopkins and Cameron Dicker were locked in a month-long competition for the job.

“From the day he arrived here, Dustin has been the consummate professional and a teammate anyone would love to have,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco said in a statement. “He’s made some big-time contributions to our organization, both on and off the field, and perhaps none more memorable than his game-winning kick last year on Monday night.”

Telesco referred to Hopkins’ 39-yard field goal with 2:38 left in overtime that gave the Chargers a 19-16 victory Oct. 17 over the Denver Broncos. Hopkins sat out for the remainder of the season because of a hamstring injury. He was sidelined for the bulk of camp because of an undisclosed injury.

Dicker made 19 of 20 field goals in 10 games last season with the Chargers, with his longest coming on a 48-yard field goal. He also made all 22 extra points he attempted. In addition, he made all four of his field-goal attempts during three exhibition games, including a 50-yarder.

The Chargers must trim their roster to an NFL-mandated 53 players by 1 p.m. Tuesday.
