Less than two months after closing Cantina Loca, a Mexican restaurant at 2890 Zuni St., celebrated chef Dana Rodriguez is back at it.
The owner of Super Mega Bien and Work & Class has plans to open a third concept in the former Il Posto space at 2601 Larimer St. in the River North Art District, according to documents filed with the city. Il Posto closed in February after 17 years.
The restaurant will be dubbed Carne (or “meat” in Spanish), her publicist confirmed. Rodriguez, who is also the culinary director at Casa Bonita, couldn’t be reached for comment, according to the publicist, because she is at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where Casa Bonita owners Trey Parker and Matt Stone are debuting a new documentary about the famed business.
In April, the James Beard-nominated Rodriguez closed Cantina Loca, her first solo restaurant, which opened in 2022, citing the challenging post-pandemic economic climate. The building is now on the market. She is also no longer a part of Doña Loca, the mezcal brand she co-founded in 2021 and which was featured at Cantina Loca.
