Crypto.com has announced the start of its first APAC Hackathon. Academic partners like Singapore Management University and Melbourne Business School support the Hackathon.
The Hackathon invites participants from all over the APAC zone to submit ideas that use Web3 and AI-powered solutions. The idea is to address the most pressing needs in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Let’s learn more about the first APAC Hackathon.
The APAC Hackathon’s Goal Is to Foster Responsible WEB3 Innovation
The Hackathon intends to foster responsible innovation in the Web3 and AI spaces. The main purpose is to address these major global sustainability concerns, with assistance and insights from academic experts at Singapore Management University and Melbourne Business School. Through this strategic initiative and relationship, Crypto.com commits to strengthening Singapore’s thought leadership and talent pipeline. As well as elevating Singapore’s standing as a worldwide center for responsible innovation in Web3 and AI.

Also, The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development lays out a plan for accomplishing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Now that we’ve reached the halfway point on our route to 2030, Crypto.com is connecting the issue statements of its APAC Hackathon with the SDGs that need the most help right now. Participants are specifically invited to focus submissions on 4 goals: Quality Education, Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, or Goal 13: Climate Action.
More About the APAC Hackathon
The Hackathon registration opens on September 18th. And is accessible to individual or team participants in APAC who are over the age of 18. Interested participants have until September 29th at 23:59 UTC to submit concept submissions for consideration. Following the proposal submission period, 12 participants will be chosen to advance their projects as finalists to the Hackathon’s incubation program. Finalists will be assigned a Crypto.com mentor and will engage in technical masterclasses on a variety of Web3 and AI issues as part of the four-week incubation program to help with the creation and development of their proposal.
The Hackathon will finish on November 14th during Singapore FinTech Festival week. All finalists will receive complimentary tickets to the Singapore FinTech Festival, as well as:
- 1st prize winner receiving USD $20,000.
- 2nd prize finalist receiving USD $10,000.
- 3rd prize finalist receiving USD $5,000.
- All remaining finalists receive USD $1,000.
Then, Hau Koh Foo, Director of SMU Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, said: “The convergence of AI and Web3 is a precursor to a new technology era. Therefore, it’s crucial to prepare the next generation of young talents to harness the power of these disruptive technologies and mold their mindset to utilize them for the benefit of all of humanity. This hackathon is a significant way for students, youths, and enthusiasts to learn about these emerging technologies, how they can be used to make a positive impact on the world and be part of the next generation of changemakers.”

Participants must be based in APAC to be eligible. Individuals interested in participating should visit the Crypto.com APAC Hackathon website to learn more. Also, register, and submit their ideas by September 29, 2023.
