DOJ inquiry into Biden's handling of classified docs done: AG

(NewsNation) — The special counsel investigating President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents has concluded his inquiry, according to a letter sent to lawmakers.

The letter from Attorney General Merrick Garland, obtained by NewsNation, says special counsel Robert Hur has submitted his final report to the Justice Department. Garland will make the report available to Congress and the public.

Hur was appointed to investigate Biden after a handful of classified documents were discovered at his home in Delaware and a former Washington, D.C., office he used after he left the White House in 2016.

The letter from Garland says nothing about the conclusion Hur reached but arrives amid reports that the special counsel is expected to announce the findings of his investigation in the coming days.

“I am committed to making as much of the special counsel’s report public as possible,” Garland wrote in the letter.

Biden has maintained he did nothing wrong, and his team has repeatedly noted that his lawyers quickly notified the National Archives and cooperated with the Justice Department after discovering the documents in his office at a University of Pennsylvania center in Washington, D.C.

The Hill and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
