European roundup: Ramos rescues late draw for PSG against Rennes | European club football

Kylian Mbappé was kept quiet as the Ligue 1 leaders, Paris Saint-Germain, needed a penalty from the substitute Gonçalo Ramos seven minutes into stoppage time to scrape a 1-1 home draw with Rennes on Sunday.

It was Mbappé’s first game since he announced he is leaving PSG at the end of the season and the crowd did not jeer him at Parc des Princes.

Ramos came on for 21-goal league top scorer Mbappé midway through the second half, and scored from the spot after a video review ruled that the goalkeeper Steve Mandanda had fouled him. That decision came after another video review overturned a penalty and ruled that Ramos had not been fouled in the 84th minute.

Mandanda made two fine saves for Rennes, who scored through Amine Gouiri’s excellent solo goal in the 33rd minute. The lively forward ran at the defense from some 30 meters out, skipped past Vitinha, put the ball through Danilo’s legs and then beat goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with the outside of his foot. The draw cut PSG’s big lead to 11 points over second-place Brest. Improving Rennes are in seventh place.

In Serie A, Daniele Rugani scored an added time goal to give Juventus a much-needed 3-2 win over a brave Frosinone on Sunday, their first league win in five games. Juventus took the lead through Vlahovic in the third minute before Walid Cheddira levelled for Frosinone 11 minutes later and the visitors took the lead in the 27th minute from a Marco Brescianini strike.

Vlahovic scored again in the 32nd minute as the sides went in level at the break, and just as it looked like Juve would need to settle for a draw, Rugani found the net in the 95th minute.

Juventus remain second on 57 points while Frosinone drop to 16th on 23 points, three above the relegation zone.

Zito Luvumbo scored late in added time to salvage a 1-1 draw for Cagliari at home to Napoli, after Victor Osimhen had given the visitors the lead. The defending champions, Napoli, remain ninth in the standings on 37 points, while Cagliari stay second from bottom with 20 points.

In the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Hoffenheim after a second-half double from Maximilian Beier left the hosts’ hold on fourth place in jeopardy.

Dortmund remain on 41 points, one clear of RB Leipzig in fifth, and six adrift of third-placed Stuttgart, who played out a 1-1 home draw with Köln on Saturday.

The Bordeaux forward Alberth Elis has undergone surgery after sustaining a serious head injury during a Ligue 2 match against Guingamp, his club said on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Honduras international collided with the Guingamp defender Donatien Gomis just 40 seconds into the game at Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux on Saturday, after which he was carried off on a stretcher.

Thirteenth-placed Bordeaux, who secured a 1-0 win over Guingamp, said Elis was rushed to the hospital after the incident and underwent surgery during the night. They added that Elis had to be placed in a protective artificial coma.

“We will be monitoring his condition in hospital over the next few days. At this stage, it is not yet possible to give an opinion on Alberth’s vital and functional prognosis,” Bordeaux said in a statement. “The club therefore expects that it will not be able to communicate any new decisive information for a few days and will not comment further on Alberth’s state of health.”

The Bordeaux head coach, Albert Riera, paid tribute to Elis in his post-match press conference, saying: “My first words are for Alberth. We spoke with the doc and we can’t say anything. He is in the hospital and there is nothing we can say. The victory is for him.”
