If my past self could see that I’ve added yet another denim jacket to my collection, she would be in disbelief. But hear me out: Despite already owning a sizable amount of traditional jean jackets, none of them were quite right for my style. They all boasted standard details, with buttons down the front and a mid-length cut. But I rarely wore them because they just didn’t pair well with the high-rise bottoms (Jeans! Skirts! Shorts!) that dominate my wardrobe. That all changed, though, when I stumbled upon this Gap Cropped Denim Jacket ($41, originally $70). Its shorter length is a perfect match for my high-rise pieces, and the zipper closure adds a modern twist that I love. And that’s just scratching the surface of why I’ve been practically living in it. Below, I break down everything you could possibly want to know about it in case you want to add it to your summer wardrobe.

What I Love About the Gap Cropped Denim Jacket

Since buying this denim jacket, I’ve already worn it multiple times, and for the record, I bought it last week. It complements everything in my wardrobe, from my casual work-from-home wardrobe, which is filled with T-Shirts, to the many matching sets I choose for date nights and outings with friends. A perfect example: I’m wearing the Linen-Cotton Ultra-Cropped Cami ($50) and the Linen-Blend Maxi Skirt ($70) in these photos that I persuaded my husband to take of me after wine night.

Another thing I adore about this denim jacket is its comfortable, flattering fit. My previous jackets ranged from being too soft to even resemble denim to so rigid they weren’t comfortable to wear. This one is the perfect in-between. It’s slim-fitting without feeling tight or constricting, and the fabric — 95 percent cotton and five percent recycled cotton — is non-stretchy and flexible (while still managing to feel soft, not scratchy). I also love its versatility and the fact that it looks chic, whether slightly zippered or fully unzipped.

What’s Worth Noting About the Gap Cropped Denim Jacket

I’m struggling to find any drawbacks of this denim jacket because it’s exactly what I hoped for and more. The fit is cropped, comfortable, and versatile. I ordered my usual size medium and it runs perfectly true to size. The crop length is just right, hitting directly at mid-hip, in line with my belly button. It’s not an extreme statement crop nor a typical length jacket, making it ideal for those looking for one that’s only subtly shorter than most. In my opinion, it’s best styled baring a hint of skin with a mid-rise skirt, like the one I’m wearing here, or teamed with high-rise bottoms to visually elongate your legs.
