A year ago, it would have sounded impossible to imagine inscribing artwork, games, or even meme tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain, but now it is possible thanks to Ordinals. The Bitcoin community has seen astonishing changes over the last few months.
And the latest on the list of changes is that users can add fully-on-chain music to Bitcoin. Let’s discover more about this initiative.
What is Audionals?
New projects have found ways to inscribe on-chain music onto the Bitcoin blockchain and sell it as individual Ordinals. Anyone can now generate a music track on the blockchain by simply entering a few keywords. So, one of the projects enabling the inscription of audio files on the Bitcoin blockchain is Audionals. It provides a tool for developers, sound engineers, musicians, and audiophile collectors to add music to the blockchain.
The Audional Sequencer has been updated.
Audional samples hardcoded onto the load buttons for fast selection.
Samples can now be loaded seamlessly during live play, even entirely new sequences, without any pause in the music!

Audionals relies on the transparent and immutable nature of blockchain technology to offer a unique way of inscribing audio directly to the Bitcoin blockchain. This service could potentially usher in a new era of music ownership, content creation, and distribution, as well as disrupt the traditional music industry.
How does Audionals Achieve this?
The core technology behind Audionals is the inscription of audio data to the blockchain in the form of Base64-encoded JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) files. Audionals accepts audio files encoded in the Base64 format, which converts binary data into a sequence of ASCII characters. Then, this audio data is embedded within a JSON file.
One of the advantages of this strategy is that the audio data is simply indexable and sortable thanks to the JSON format. The JSON file can include metadata, such as the audio format, the instrument applied, the genre, key, BPM, and user-defined features.
So, this makes it easier to search for, organize, and modify audio files on Audionals. It simply generates an accessible database of audio files that can be sorted and searched, making it effective and user-friendly.

In addition, the direct inscription of audio data on the blockchain has significant ramifications for authenticity, ownership, and copyright. When audio is recorded on the blockchain, it becomes unchangeable and irreversible. It is transparently owned and cannot be changed or erased.
Ordinals are Changing the Game
Casey Rodarmor exploited a loophole in Bitcoin’s 2021 Taproot upgrade and helped launch Ordinals in January. Ordinals enable the inscription of different data file formats onto the Bitcoin blockchain.
It's been quite a journey, but we've built a standalone player that will play any number of #audional inscribed AUDX songs. Singles, albums or anthologies, in a single 700 byte inscription

An Ordinal is tied to a single satoshi, which is the smallest unit of Bitcoin measurement. Ordinals have unlocked a new economy on Bitcoin, enabling the trading of meme tokens and NFT-like assets on the blockchain.
