Sonam Chhabra is all set to spread her wings and fly out to debut at Cannes. Talking about her debut at Cannes, Sonam shares that she is overwhelmed and extremely grateful for this opportunity. Sonam also says she never thought she would make it to Cannes one day, however, she also somewhere manifested this dream. “vision board mein Anushka sharma k picture hata kar apna chehra lagaya”(I replaced Anushka Sharma’s picture with mine on my vision board), she shares. Talking about this opportunity, Sonam shares that she is extremely grateful to her fans and followers, because of whom she has reached this point. Sonam also intends to make the most of this opportunity by representing Indian actors and influencers and making people notice their talent.
Sonam’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming an anchor, influencer, and actor
Discussing her journey, Sonam reveals that she never envisioned entering the field of entertainment or showbiz. The B.Com. graduate was preparing for her competitive exams to become an administrative officer. But destiny intervened! The emcee didn’t turn up at their college event, and people suggested Sonam to take the stage as she was the only girl. Despite her initial nerves, that breakthrough moment changed her life forever. From there, Sonam became a successful live host, and then in 2020, during the pandemic, while she was busy doing social work finding beds and oxygen cylinders through social media, she built a community that kept growing. Speaking of acting, Sonam says it was also incidental, “Somebody saw me at an event anchoring, and they said we have a role for a journalist. Would you do it?” she recalls. Sonam says she goes with the flow and likes to take things as they come.
Sonam Chhabra’s transition to an actor
Talking about her experience as a newcomer, especially coming from a non-filmy background, Sonam shares that she has always felt very welcomed and warm by the industry. Sharing her experience working with Nitya Bajaj, Zoya Akhtar, and Sobhita Dhulipala, Sonam shares that she has always felt that she is very much a part of the industry. “Not for a minute did anyone make me feel like an outsider,” she shares. Sonam believes that the industry has evolved, and with OTT platforms coming into play, the industry will give you an opportunity if you act well.
Discussing some of the challenges, Sonam shares that coming from a non-filmy background, her relatives and neighbors showed resistance to accepting her job, but luckily, her parents have always been her support system.
Sonam Chhabra on saturation in the content creation industry and competition
Sonam shares that she believes in the concept of collaborating and growing. She says the growth in content creators has opened up pathways and opportunities for other content creators. “Mujhe toh bhaut Khushi hui jab Modiji ne creators award rakhe” (I was very happy when Modi ji announced the creator’s award), I felt like my community is growing so I am growing,” she shares. She feels extremely happy that the creator’s community is growing, and so she feels she is growing.
