More than 25 years after her tragic death, we still borrow inspiration from
Princess Diana
‘s wardrobe (think oversized shirts, straight leg jeans and a pair of chunky gold earrings). And we’re not the only ones. Celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles have all channelled her style before. Recently, another famous face is thought to have taken a page out of the late Princess of Wales’ playbook: Jacob Elordi.
Eagle-eyed fans have pointed out striking similarities between the Princess of Wales and the Australian actor on not one but four (!) occasions. Not that we’re surprised. Both Diana and Jacob are credited with breaking boundaries through fashion as the former royal defied expectations of traditional royal fashion. Throughout the nineties she was frequently pictured in athleisure wear while members of the Royal Family were rarely seen in out of their elegant formalwear.
Similarly, Jacob, who was born just a month before the princess’ death in 1997, has made it clear he is not bound by typical rules of men’s fashion. In an interview with
GQ
, the Euphoria star said he needs a bag whenever he leaves the house (and we’re quite envious of his growing collection of arm candy actually).
From his red-carpet appearances to his effortless street style attire, the actor’s recent fits have captured his fans’ attention. One of his go-to off-duty outfit formulas– a crew neck sweatshirt and gym shorts – is very reminiscent of some of Princess Diana’s favourite wardrobe staples in the early 90s.

Beyond everyday athleisure, Jacob’s more upscale outfits also demonstrate a distinct resemblance to those of Diana’s. Earlier this year, he was spotted in London wearing a navy blazer with white trimmed lapels. The tailored jacket was remarkably similar to an outfit worn by Princess Diana 28 years ago, also in London, to attend a charity lunch.

Social media users were surprised by the resemblance, with one fan commenting, ‘the accuracy is sickening’ and another saying, ‘I can’t unsee this’.
Some people, however, are less convinced the 26-year-old Saltburn actor has reach Diana’s status as a style icon. One X user commented, ‘Sweetheart unfortunately not. This is offensive to THE Lady Diana Spencer. Have some respect,’ while another agreed saying, ‘Bro please put more respect on Lady D she was a fashion icon.’
Some fans want Jacob Elordi to totally commit to the Princess Diana look with one user demanding: ‘Make him wear the revenge dress’.
Honestly? We think he could probably pull it off.
