PlayStation players are currently unable to check their PlayStation Stars points as the loyalty programme appears to be down for gamers worldwide.
Users claim the rewards feature has completely vanished from the PlayStation app, leaving them unable to access it or view their balance. To make matters worse, the disruption is happening during PlayStation’s State of Play sales event, meaning players can’t spend their points on discounted games.
It’s unclear if the issue is a bug or, as some users have suggested, a server-side issue on the PlayStation app caused by an API error.
The Standard has reached out to Sony PlayStation for comment. We couldn’t see the PS Stars icon on our end, too, which is typically located next to the player profile pic. A PlayStation customer support agent told us that the company’s “engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a solution,” but couldn’t offer an exact time for a fix.
This outage aside, there doesn’t appear to be a wider problem with PlayStation’s services. PlayStation’s Network status page is currently not showing any problems with its online features, including the PS Store and multiplayer gaming.
What is PlayStation Stars?
Sony introduced PlayStation Stars in 2022 as a free loyalty programme for users. You earn points by completing campaigns and activities tied to games, such as bagging a specific achievement (or trophy), or by making purchases on the PlayStation Store.
These points can then be redeemed for various rewards like PS Store credit, In-game items for specific games, full PS5 and PS4 games, and unique digital collectibles. The programme is tiered, so the more points you earn by playing, the more you progress through these levels, unlocking better rewards as you go.
However, PlayStation Stars is connected to the PlayStation App on iPhone and Android, and can’t be accessed through consoles.
